Analysis of Ring Generalship
Ring Craft is successfully adapting one’s self to the opponent’s style. It means to out-smart and out-think the opponent in the ring. In general, ring craft means ascertaining as soon as possible, the opponent’s weakness or strength, his/her favorite mode of attack and his/her general manner of defense. It means learning the opponent’s moves, his timing and whole style of fighting. It means forcing the opponent to fight out of style, to tire him out and to frustrate his attack.
Ring Generalship means a general knowledge of the methods used to cope with the different styles of fighting. This entails mapping out a plan of battle before a bout. It necessitates knowing exactly what style of fighting the opponent uses. After a fight begins, this strategy may change to adapt to any unforeseen parts of an opponent’s arsenal or tactical adjustments he makes to gain an advantage.
