Adaptive Boxing Corporation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose core mission is to provide non-contact boxing for individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities the opportunity to engage in competitive and recreational athletic activities through modified equipment and adapted rules.
The primary objective of Adaptive Boxing is to offer individuals with physical or cognitive disabilities the opportunity to participate in competitive non-contact adaptive boxing events measured on outcomes of each individual’s abilities, as well as recreational activities that promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and social interaction. By utilizing modified equipment and rules tailored to meet the diverse needs of participants, these programs aim to empower individuals, enhance their self-esteem, and foster a sense of community. Adaptive sports not only emphasize inclusivity and accessibility but also emphasize the importance of personal growth, teamwork, and resilience, enabling athletes to challenge themselves and achieve their fullest potential in a supportive environment.
Adaptive Sports are designed to foster inclusion, enhance health, and encourage social engagement among people with disabilities.

We believe that sport is transformative. Our mission is to provide every veteran and person with a disability — regardless of age, injury, or ability level — the opportunity to engage in competitive and recreational athletic activities through modified equipment, adapted rules, and an unwavering community of support.
These adaptive sports represent a well-rounded continuum of adaptive athletic engagement that addresses the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of recovery and wellness. Furthermore, the inclusive nature of adaptive sports promotes social interaction, builds friendships, and creates a sense of belonging among athletes, ultimately aiding in their holistic recovery journey and improving their quality of life.

“There is nothing like the power of sport. Sport makes us more — physically, mentally, and socially. Yet today, too many veterans and individuals with disabilities have limited opportunities to participate. We are here to change that.”

Veterans with PTSD respond less favorably to treatment than any other PTSD population when treated in isolation. This troubling reality underscores the need for a more holistic and community-oriented approach to PTSD treatment among veterans. A recent systematic review identified six critical themes that predict treatment success: peer support, social reintegration, empowerment through purpose and community, building trust, holistic interventions, and rethinking the diagnosis. Furthermore, fostering peer support networks allows veterans to share their experiences and feel understood, which can significantly enhance their recovery journey. Social reintegration plays a pivotal role, as it encourages veterans to reconnect with their communities and engage in meaningful activities that can alleviate feelings of isolation.
Empowerment through purpose and community involvement not only boosts self-esteem but also provides a sense of belonging. It is also essential to build trust between veterans and healthcare providers, as this relationship is crucial for effective treatment. Holistic interventions take into account the entire well-being of the individual, integrating mental, emotional, and physical health strategies. Lastly, rethinking the diagnosis of PTSD itself could open new pathways for understanding and treating the unique experiences of veterans, paving the way for more tailored and effective treatment plans.
“Never leave a fellow Service member behind, nor forget them after the fight.”
